2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
Two St. Joseph’s Academy students participated in the 2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), held May 13-18 in Pittsburgh. Both students were MERCY alums. Sophomore Marianne Konikoff and junior Allie Young were among the participants at this event. ISEF is the world’s largest pre-college science competition, providing an opportunity for more than 1,500 high school students to display their independent research and compete for more than $3 million in awards and scholarships. Allie Young presented her project entitled A Comparison of Analytical Methodologies for the Determination of Sulfur Dioxide Levels in Bleached, Wooden Chopsticks. Marianne Konikoff presented her project entitled Molecular Hydrogen Abundance and Far-Ultraviolet Extinction Due to Dust. In addition to presenting their research, the students visited Heinz Field and Carnegie Science Museum. Accompanying the students with SJA facutly member Linda Messina were SJA parents Kirsten Steintrager and Connie Young.
